In the past the Thung Kula Rong Hai region was covered by the sea. As the sea receded, it left the area with a high concentration of salinity. Soil salinity is the salt content in the soil. Over long periods of time the soil weathers and releases salts. These salts are leached out of the soil by drainage waters in areas with abundant precipitation. In more dry areas, such as Thung Kula, proper irrigation management can prevent salt accumulation. Australia is another country that has this problem in its larger barren areas. More recently the Thailand government, and the Australian government, have worked together in the construction of a reservoir and irrigation system to bring more control to the soil conditions in this area. After the soil reconditioning now our rice can flourish and grow in this beautiful region. Due to the perfect climate of this northern Thailand region, with its deep humidity, and perfect soil condition, one of the finest jasmine rice strains is able to flourish. These conditions, along with the knowledge and wisdom of the local farmers, allow this beautiful, flavorful rice to exist in its own unique category. Thung Kula Rong-Hai jasmine rice is the worlds most accepted jasmine rice based on four main features.
